The OF Outono Fotográfico Association, the Xunta de Galicia (Galician Government), and the Deputación de Lugo (Lugo City Council) are organising the XII PREMIO GALICIA DE FOTOGRAFÍA CONTEMPORÁNEA (GALICIA AWARD OF CONTEMPORARY PHOTOGRAPHY), to promote contemporary photography and the ethical issues that contemporary art generally raises with regard to forms of domination and the imposition of limits on thought. To promote the creation of a photographic space in Galicia that complements the one created over more than three decades by the Festival Outono Fotográfico by encouraging proposals of a visualphotographic nature from both national and foreign authors.
Any author who works with photography, regardless of their nationality, will be able to take part, bearing in mind that the jury’s verdict will be particularly influenced by its inclusion in the discourse of contemporary photography.
A single prize will be awarded, consisting of the PRODUCTION OF AN EXHIBITION and its tour, and the PUBLICATION OF A BOOK:
PRODUCTION OF AN EXHIBITION
An exhibition will be produced with the awarded photographic project. The OF. Outono Fotográfico Association will appoint a curator responsible for the design, editing, and sizing of the exhibition.
TOUR. The exhibition will be inaugurated in Lugo (Galicia) and will tour for 2 years through various cities in Galicia and Portugal. After the tour, the exhibition will become the property of the author.
PUBLICATION OF A BOOK
A book will be published with the awarded photographic project, as part of the "GALICIA CONTEMPORARY PHOTOGRAPHY PRIZE" series of the "OF" collection by the Difusora de Letras Artes e Ideas publishing house, which will appoint the editor and designer of the book to be distributed in bookstores. The author will be entitled to a percentage of the book's print run.
The organization of the Galicia Contemporary Photography Prize is responsible for its founding in 2013, within the framework of the International Outono Fotográfico Festival, organized by the same team, and held continuously from 1983 to 2017, a festival that annually featured over 100 exhibitions in 22 towns and cities.
Additionally, the OF. Outono Fotográfico Association has organized events such as Território Expandido (Brazil, Portugal, Galicia), artist residencies, and exhibitions in collaboration with public institutions, museums, and galleries.
