We strive to expand our horizons, and those of our audiences, through a rich, multi-faceted and diverse collection of stories from, and representational of, the global LGBTQIA+ community. The PRIDE PHOTO 2027 Contest is open to photographers of all ages, backgrounds and calibers, from professional to amateur.

We invite you all to apply, and hope to see this openness reflected in the submissions for the 2027 PRIDE PHOTO Open Call. Whether through documentary photography that highlights news events, and the realities of daily life, or through artistic expression using portraiture, collage, and photographic intervention. The PRIDE PHOTO Contest is open to all formats of photography and image-based storytelling that work to express the varied and multifaceted lives and lived experiences of the LGBTQIA+ community from around the world.

What winners receive

The winner(s) will receive and benefit from:

• €500 for all  photographers whose photo(s) will be included in the Pride Photo Exhibition 2027.
• Being seen by a substantial number of visual arts professionals, photography lovers, thousands of visitors and in the media when the awarded photos are prominently displayed in the Pride Photo Exhibition 2027, stating photographers name, project title and description.
• Being seen by a substantial number of visual arts professionals, photography lovers, when the awarded photos are (repeatedly) displayed on the website and social media platforms of Pride Photo, in which the photographer will be mentioned and where possible tagged.

Eligibility Statement

As an organisation, we oppose hatred, racism, homophobia, sexism - all and any forms of violence, oppression and above-all genocide. In line with these values, we cannot accept works that engage in pink-washing, or that promote discriminatory or exclusionary narratives or perspectives. Any works or submissions that contain such content are not eligible.

Statement on the use of AI

PRIDE PHOTO is committed to representing the lived experiences and realities of LGBTQIA+ people and communities. Photography is central to this as it can bear witness, and act as a powerful form of representation and resilience.

Participants must declare any and all use of artificial intelligence (AI) in their submitted images and clearly describe how AI has been used in the making or editing of the work.

PRIDE PHOTO does not accept images that have been created entirely through generative AI. We believe that images representing LGBTQIA+ lives and experiences should be grounded in lived reality and in the perspectives of the people and communities they depict. Fully AI-generated images do not document or represent real people or lived experiences. They are generated from datasets built from existing images and can reproduce assumptions, stereotypes and dominant representations of marginalised communities.

We recognise that AI can be used as a tool within photographic and artistic processes, and that the distinction between photography, digital manipulation and AI is continually evolving. We therefore assess the use of AI in the context of each work. Transparency about how AI has been used is essential to this process.

Jury Statement

Each year, Pride Photo appoints an independent jury of creative professionals working across photography and the visual arts. All submissions are reviewed through multiple rounds of judging, with the final selection reached collectively by the jury.

In making its selection, the jury considers both the quality of the work and the diversity of perspectives, experiences and identities represented. We aim to create space for a broad range of LGBTQIA+ realities and expressions, with particular attention to work that emerges from lived experience, proximity and meaningful engagement with the communities and stories represented.

About Pride Photo

PRIDE PHOTOis an Amsterdam-based non-profit and international platform for queer photography and visual storytelling.

We make the multiplicity of LGBTQIA+ experiences visible by creating space for photographers and artists to tell their own stories, on their own terms.

Through exhibitions, public lectures, publication, education, events and collaborations, we connect artists with audiences and encourage greater representation, dialogue and understanding. We actively seek out stories and perspectives that are underrepresented, recognising that no single platform or open call can capture the full diversity of queer life.

Our growing collection brings together the queer photographic stories we have gathered over the years, making them available online and keeping these voices visible for generations to come.

Photography is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that being seen matters, that images can challenge discrimination, create connection and make space for people to recognise themselves and one another.
