Médicos del Mundo Spain announces the 28th Luis Valtueña International Humanitarian Photography Award, aimed at recognizing and disseminating the best photo series that singularly demonstrate social inequities, injustices and / or human rights abuses, or the situations that either foster or fight them.
By giving this competition the name of the photographer and international cooperant Luis Valtueña, we pay tribute to his memory, as well as to that of the three other cooperants of the association who were murdered in Rwanda (1997) and in Bosnia (1995) while carrying out their duties as humanitarian aid workers. It is also our wish to highlight the human values they represent.

Médicos del Mundo is an NGO, independent of any political or religious affiliation, that promotes human development by defending every person’s fundamental right to health and dignified life. The organization is made up of volunteers and staff who join their efforts to achieve universal, fair access to health and denounce violations of this right.
The organization supports documentary photography and photojournalism as a means to raise awareness amongst the general public concerning social issues, while also promoting citizen mobilization and contributing to the eradication of the worst disease: injustice.
The submitted images must narrate a story related to one of these topics: health, natural disasters, humanitarian action, international cooperation, social exclusion, violation of human rights, armed conflicts, vulnerable groups, refugee and / or migrant populations. Special attention will be paid to those stories of interest that are not covered or disseminated enough or are little known, to contribute to their dissemination and reflection.
The Jury of the Luis Valtueña International Humanitarian Photography Award will look for those projects that, beyond their thematic relevance or their denouncing character, stand out for their technical quality, impact, creativity, and originality in both the treatment and the focus of what has been documented. In the end, it should be a compelling and cohesive documentary photo series. At least 50% of the total of the series must have been made between 2023 and 2024. Entries may only be submitted by the photographer. All submissions will be judged anonymously, by blind jury method
