The Hasselblad Foundation’s Nature Photography Grant has been awarded since 2008. The purpose of the grant is, with Victor Hasselblad’s interest in nature in mind, to encourage the development of nature photography in the Nordic countries.

Hasselblad Foundation's Nature Photography Grant

In line with Victor Hasselblad’s strong interest in nature and environmental issues, the Hasselblad Foundation has awarded a Nature Photography Grant since 2008 to promote the development of nature photography as a genre in the Nordic region.

About the grant

The grant supports innovative photographic explorations of nature, the environment, and landscapes in projects that also contribute to the development of nature photography as a genre. Previously awarded every two years, the grant will be awarded annually from 2026 onwards.

Criteria

In the evaluation process, particular emphasis is placed on:

-Originality and creativity

-The project’s focus on current environmental issues

-Focus on biodiversity

-Human impact on nature and climate

-Collaborations and interdisciplinary perspectives

Eligibility

Applicants must be citizens of a Nordic country, or citizens of another country with permanent residence in a Nordic country.

The grant may be applied for by photographers seeking full or partial funding for an artistic or documentary project within the field of nature photography.

Applications may be submitted by individuals or groups

Project Scope

The project should be clearly defined and limited in scope, with an estimated timeframe of approximately 1–3 years from initiation to completion.

Grant Amount

The grant amounts to SEK 100,000. The recipient is responsible for any tax implications.

Application

Applications must be completed in Swedish or English and must be received by the Hasselblad Foundation no later than 8 May.

Incomplete applications will not be considered, and no additional material will be accepted after the application deadline.

Photographs

A maximum of 10 photographs may be submitted. Title and date must be provided for each image.

Reporting

Written reports accompanied by images must be submitted during the project period, according to an agreement with the Hasselblad Foundation.
