1. THE CONTEST

To fulfil its cultural and sporting ambition, the FIBA Foundation, whose role is to preserve and promote FIBA values and its cultural heritage, organizes yearly the FIBA Photo Contest.

2. OBJECTIVE OF THE CONTEST

The Contest will be a unique opportunity for all keen photographers and basketball lovers to show their talents. To participate in the Contest, you may submit up to five (5) photos related to the themes chosen by FIBA Foundation.

To celebrate the 10th edition, the FIBA Foundation is introducing three (3) categories:

1. Elite Basketball
2. Community Basketball
3. Vintage Basketball

The submitted photos need to represent, in a digital format, one category (or more) and its connection with basketball.

3. ELIGIBILITY

• A. The Contest is open to everyone regardless of age, nationality and country of residence. Participants under 18 years of age are responsible for ensuring that their submission is in compliance with the legal requirements of their country. Minors must accompany their registration with their parents’ or legal guardian’s prior approval. This document shall be deemed as the official, valid parents’ or legal guardian’s prior approval for their participation in this Contest.
• B. Participation in the Contest is free of charge.
• C. Photos taken during FIBA Events, or a work product of a FIBA or FIBA Foundation designation or assignment will not be considered for the Contest.
• D. The Contest is open from September 30th, 2026, at 12:00 (GMT/UTC +1), until December 4th, 2026, at 23:59 (GMT/UTC +1). After this date and time, submissions will no longer be taken into consideration.

4. GUIDELINES REGARDING THE PHOTOGRAPHS

• A. Except for photographs entered in the Vintage Basketball category, each photograph must have been taken by the Participant, must be the Participant’s own original creation, and must be submitted by the Participant in their own name.

A photograph entered in the Vintage Basketball category may have been taken by another person. In that case, the Participant must be:

• (i) the photographer and copyright owner;
• (ii) the lawful heir or successor in title of the photographer or copyright owner;
• (iii) the owner of the copyright pursuant to a valid transfer or assignment; or
• (iv) expressly authorised in writing by the current copyright owner to submit the photograph to the Contest and to grant all rights required under these General Conditions of Participation.

Mere possession of a photograph, print, negative, slide, digital file, album, archive, or other physical or digital copy does not establish ownership of copyright or any authority to submit the photograph.

Photographs for which the photographer or current copyright owner is unknown, or for which the Participant cannot demonstrate the necessary rights and authority, are not eligible for submission.

• B. Pictures must represent the categories chosen by the FIBA Foundation.
• C. Each participant can submit a maximum of five (5) pictures related to one or more categories. Participants will be deemed to have officially entered the Contest upon submission of at least one picture.
• D. Drawings, illustrations, computer-made or assisted pictures are not permitted. Furthermore, images generated or altered using artificial intelligence tools are not eligible for submission. The only alterations permitted is the modification of certain parameters (Saturation, contrast, sharpness, temperature of colours, balance of whites and colours) as well as eliminating noise.
• E. Mandatory elements for the pictures:
  • Format: JPEG/JPG format.
  • Minimum size: 1500px
  • Author information: name, date of birth, nationality, biography
  • Image title, year of creation, place of creation, image description
  • No text, logos or description applied over the photo.
• F. Pictures cannot be submitted by regular post or any other postage/mail services. All submissions must be uploaded electronically through the platform specifically dedicated to the Contest.
• G. Photos that are not linked to any of the categories will be excluded from the Contest and the participant’s entry will be removed. The same will happen to photos containing inappropriate content (such as, but not limited to, violence, racism or pornography). Photos containing promotional or commercial content will not be accepted.
• H. The Participant will receive confirmation of his/her submission upon uploading the first photo.
• I. By submitting a photograph, the Participant represents and warrants that:
• (i) all information provided concerning the photograph, including its photographer, approximate date, location, provenance, and copyright ownership, is accurate to the best of the Participant’s knowledge;
• (ii) the Participant owns, or has obtained from the relevant right holder, all rights, licences, consents, permissions, and authorisations necessary to submit the photograph and to grant the rights set out in these General Conditions of Participation;
• (iii) that their photos do not take elements of other existing creations, infringe any third-party rights or any other rights protected by law (copyright, trademark law, right to one’s image, right to privacy, etc.)
• (iv) where the photograph was taken by another person, the Participant has accurately identified the photographer wherever reasonably possible and has not falsely claimed authorship; and the Participant must retain all supporting documentation and provide it to FIBA Foundation promptly upon request.
• J. The Participant is responsible for the photos submitted and guarantees and indemnifies the FIBA Foundation and FIBA against any action, claim, demand or appeal that may be brought by third parties, and against any resulting damage, loss, liability, cost or expense, arising from an infringement of their rights or from a breach of the undertakings and warranties set out in these General Conditions of Participation. The FIBA Foundation reserves the right to take legal action against Participants for any damage suffered as a result of a breach of the foregoing undertakings. In case of doubt, a complaint by a third party, or failure by the Participant to provide satisfactory evidence of the necessary rights or authorisations, the FIBA Foundation reserves the right to exclude or remove any photograph from the Contest, suspend or cease its use, and revoke any prize awarded, without justification or liability.
• K. By their participation, participants irrevocably grant the perpetual rights of their photographs to the FIBA Foundation/FIBA. They explicitly authorise the FIBA Foundation/FIBA to use, exploit, reproduce or transfer their photos freely, without further notification, authorization, or compensation. The FIBA Foundation/FIBA can thus freely dispose of the photos, in particular for commercial or promotional purposes, without the participants being able to claim any compensation. Participants agree that their photos will be exhibited at the House of Basketball, the world headquarters of FIBA.
• L. Participants must ensure that the photos submitted do not infringe privacy or personal rights without obtaining the authorization of the person represented. In the event that a representation is deemed to be contrary to these terms, the participant will be excluded from the contest.

5. DESIGNATION OF WINNERS AND PRIZES

• A. The FIBA Foundation jury will reward the authors of the best photo of each category, one (1) per category, with the following prize:
  • Photographic equipment with an estimated value of 2.000 CHF. Publication in FIBA Photo Book 2026, FIBA Foundation and FIBA social media channels, and a diploma.
  • In addition to that, the FIBA Shot of the Year, selected amongst the three category winners, will be rewarded with a FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 Photographer Experience: 5-day trip, with travel and accommodation included.
• B. The FIBA Foundation reserves the right to replace prizes at any time with similar prizes of similar value and to exclude participants at its own discretion. This applies in particular to any attempt to manipulate or violate these General Conditions of Participation. Any decision regarding the award of prizes will be final, without appeal or review.
• C. The winners will be announced in December 2026 on the FIBA Foundation and FIBA website. They will also be informed personally by e-mail by the FIBA Foundation.
• D. The FIBA Foundation reserves the right to contact the winning Participants by telephone or other methods in order to confirm the Participant’s contact details.

6. MISCELLANEOUS

• A. The FIBA Foundation is not responsible for any problems or damage suffered by the participant such as computer network problems, computer virus infection, submission issues, or unauthorized access to computers that may lead to loss of data.
• B. FIBA Foundation reserves the right to revoke winner status and/or revoke any awarded prize in the event that a Participant is found to be unsuitable or ineligible after the prize is awarded. FIBA Foundation is solely responsible for the validation of pictures uploaded on the dedicated platform and may refuse to add any picture which does not satisfy these terms and conditions
• C. The FIBA Foundation is legally constituted under Swiss law and accordingly, any dispute which may arise in connection with the Contest and which cannot be settled amicably will be referred to the Courts of Lausanne, Switzerland and will be settled in accordance with Swiss law, excluding its rules of conflict of laws.
• D. At the time of entering the Contest, entrants have read, understood and agree with these terms and conditions, knowing that the FIBA Foundation reserves the right to decide on any matter not covered in this document.
• E. In the event that a Participant should disagree with any decision made by the FIBA Foundation, that Participant will have the right to withdraw his or her entry. All related expenses incurred shall be borne solely by the Participant.
