Terms and Conditions — Tomorrow Will Be Yesterday
The rules below form the Terms and Conditions of the open call "Tomorrow Will Be Yesterday" (the "Call"). By submitting an entry, you are deemed to have agreed to and accepted these Terms.
1. Administration. The Call is administered by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Photographie e.V. ("DGPh"), Rheingasse 8-12, 50676 Cologne, Germany. The photo slam takes place at Fotografiska Berlin on 19 September 2026.
2. Closing date. The closing date for entries is 21 August 2026, 23:59 CEST (UTC+2).
3. Eligibility. The Call is open to photographers worldwide who are 18 years of age or older at the time of entry. Members of the DGPh Executive Board are not eligible to enter. Jury members may submit their own work; they abstain from the assessment and discussion of their own submission.
4. Number of entries. Each entrant may submit one (1) photographic series only.
5. Submission requirements. Each entry must consist of an existing photographic series of ten (10) to twenty (20) images, a project description of no more than 600 characters describing the series and its relation to the theme, and a brief artist biography. Files must be JPEG or TIFF, sRGB colour space, 3000 pixels on the long side. Entries must be submitted in English through the designated online platform (PICTER).
6. Entry fee. The entry fee is €15 per submission, payable through the platform. DGPh members may enter free of charge using the voucher code distributed via the DGPh member newsletter. The entry fee is non-refundable and does not guarantee selection.
7. Ownership and originality. Each entry must be the original work of the entrant. The entrant warrants that they own the copyright to all submitted photographs, that the photographs have been taken with the permission of any identifiable persons pictured (or their parents/guardians where such persons are under 18) and any relevant venue/location, and that the entry does not infringe the privacy rights, copyright or any other rights of any third party.
8. Indemnity. The entrant shall indemnify the DGPh and Fotografiska Berlin against any and all claims, damages, losses or costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising from any breach of clause 7 or any infringement of third-party rights caused by the entrant's submission.
9. Authorship and manipulation. All submitted photographs must be captured using a camera. Artificially generated images (including but not limited to AI-generated imagery) and generative fill are not permitted. Light cropping, colour adjustments and grayscale conversion that do not alter content are permissible; substantial digital manipulation that adds, removes, rearranges or distorts elements within the frame is not. The DGPh reserves the right to request the original unedited files (including RAW files, original JPEGs, and EXIF metadata) from selected entrants for verification purposes.
10. Copyright and grant of licence. Entrants retain the copyright to all submitted photographs. As a condition of participation, each entrant grants the DGPh a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence for a period of two (2) years from the date of the event (19 September 2026) to use the submitted photographs for the following purposes: (a) presentation as part of the sequenced slideshow at Fotografiska Berlin on 19 September 2026; (b) inclusion in the online slideshow launched on 20 September 2026 and hosted on DGPh-controlled platforms; (c) use in DGPh press communications, press releases, press materials, and coverage related to the event; (d) use on DGPh social media channels including Instagram; (e) use in the DGPh member newsletter and other DGPh communications related to the event.
11. Attribution. All uses of submitted photographs by the DGPh under clause 10 shall include a photographer credit in the form "© [Photographer name], Tomorrow Will Be Yesterday / DGPh."
12. Fotografiska Berlin. Fotografiska Berlin, as the location host of the event, is granted an equivalent non-exclusive, royalty-free licence for the same two-year period to use selected works for promotional communications related to the event.
13. No transfer of ownership. Nothing in these Terms constitutes an assignment or transfer of copyright. The entrant remains the sole copyright owner of their photographs.
14. Selection process. Entries are reviewed by a jury of five members appointed by the DGPh. The jury selects entries by consensus at its sole discretion. The decision of the jury is final, and no correspondence will be entered into. The DGPh is under no obligation to select any particular number of entries or to select any entries at all.
15. No prize. The Call is non-competitive. There is no monetary prize. Selected works receive presentation on the LED wall at Fotografiska Berlin, inclusion in the online slideshow, and the associated visibility.
16. Notification. Selected entrants will be notified by email by 11 September 2026. All other entrants will receive a closing communication. The full list of selected works will be published on the event website on or around 19 September 2026.
17. Disqualification. The DGPh reserves the right to disqualify any entry that does not comply with these Terms, is incomplete, is submitted after the closing date, or is otherwise unsuitable in the DGPh's reasonable judgment. The DGPh accepts no responsibility for entries lost, delayed, misdirected, damaged, corrupted or undelivered due to technical errors in telecommunications networks or otherwise.
18. Data protection. Personal information provided by entrants (including name, nationality, email address, and any information contained in the artist biography or project description) will be processed by the DGPh solely in connection with the administration of the Call and in accordance with the DGPh's privacy policy and Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR). Data will be retained for the period necessary to administer the Call and fulfil the two-year licence granted under clause 10, after which it will be deleted, except where retention is required by law.
19. Limitation of liability. The DGPh shall not be liable to any entrant for any loss or damage arising out of or in connection with the Call, except in cases of gross negligence or intent. This exclusion does not apply to statutory liability that cannot be excluded under German law.
20. Force majeure. The DGPh shall not be liable for any delay or failure to perform its obligations under these Terms caused by circumstances beyond its reasonable control, including without limitation strikes, natural catastrophes, epidemic or pandemic conditions, acts of war or terrorism, or governmental action.
21. Amendments. The DGPh may amend these Terms at any time; any material amendments will be notified to entrants through the platform.
22. Governing law and jurisdiction. These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany. The courts of Cologne (Köln), Germany, shall have exclusive jurisdiction in respect of any dispute arising out of or in connection with the Call or these Terms.
23. Consent. By submitting an entry, the entrant confirms that they have read, understood and accepted these Terms and Conditions in full.
