The Street Photography Barcelona Contest (SPBC) provides international visibility to professional and amateur photographers who work with street photography with honesty and creativity. The festival offers a physical and virtual exhibition space in Barcelona and Ibiza where their work can be viewed, appreciated, recognized, and even purchased.

For SPBC, the essence of street photography lies in the ability to observe what is happening in the environment and capture the authenticity of a unique moment in reality. It is about recognizing and recording those singular moments that urban areas and their anonymous inhabitants offer us in any corner of the world, transforming them into unique works of art.

Selections

From all the participants, 25 artists will be selected, whose works will be published on our website and will be part of a four-day group exhibition at Galerie Art Nomade in Barcelona. The organization will cover all printing, framing, and installation costs, ensuring that the images receive the recognition they deserve in the Born district, one of Barcelona's most vibrant cultural hubs. During those four days, SPBC will be a meeting point for local, national, and international photographers, as well as for the public, who will have the opportunity to purchase the exhibited works if the artists allow it.

The festival also features Photowalks, Portfolio Reviews, Screenings, Workshops, collaborations with photography brands, and talks led by the award-winning and selected photographers, who will share their experience, creative process, and vision of contemporary street photography.

Collaboration with Ibizacinefest

SPBC is collaborating with the Ibiza Independent Film Festival (IBIC) on the "Point of View" section, dedicated to feature-length documentaries with photography as their central element. Within this section, the festival will screen a 45-minute audiovisual montage featuring SPBC's finalist works. Furthermore, the three award-winning films from SBPC will be given special prominence: they will be screened at the beginning of the final weekend of the festival, integrating the power of still images with the narrative force of cinema. Through this partnership, Ibizacinefest and Street Photography Barcelona reinforce their commitment to experimentation and dialogue between different art forms, offering audiences an experience where film and photography meet, converse, and mutually enhance one another.

Participation Requirements

Open to photographers of any nationality, 18 years of age or older. Both color and black and white images are accepted. Submitted photographs must reflect the essence of street photography: spontaneous and taken in public or social spaces. Journalistic photographs and portraits using only natural light sources, apart from the use of a single flash, are not accepted. Works generated with artificial intelligence or digitally manipulated images that alter the originality of the work will not be accepted.

Images captured anywhere in the world and at any time are accepted, provided they are no more than two years old.

Number of Works and Registration Fees

Each participant may submit 1, 3, or 5 photographs, which will be evaluated individually.

Submitting a larger number of works increases the chances of selection.

1 Photograph: €10

3 Photographs: €25

5 Photographs: €40

Technical Requirements

Accepted format: JPG

Maximum file size: 15 MB

If selected, the file will be required for an enlargement of up to 70 cm on the longest side.

Awards and Exhibition

25 finalist photographs will be selected to be part of a group exhibition.

The exhibition will be held over four days at Galerie Art Nomade, a cultural space located in the heart of Barcelona. During the exhibition, the works will be presented in a high-traffic cultural environment, open to curators, visual artists, industry professionals, and the general public interested in art. Participating in this exhibition means being part of a prestigious space for international street photography. If the artist chooses, the works will be available for purchase. In the event of a sale, SPBC and Galerie Art Nomade will not be involved; all proceeds will go to the artist.

The selection process for 25 finalists will be overseen by Xavi Herrero, who, together with Olivier Verdier, curator and owner of Galerie Art Nomade, will form and preside over the jury composed of members of the ASSOCIACIÓ CULTURAL EL CARRER ÉS ART. This jury will award two Special Mentions, each receiving €250, and the overall winner, who will receive a cash prize of €500.

A total of €1,000 in cash prizes will be awarded:

€500 First Prize

€250 Special Mention

€250 Special Mention for the best photograph in Black and White or Color, depending on the previous prizes.

The 25 finalists will participate in the group exhibition at Galerie Art Nomade.

The 25 finalists will also be included in the screenings at the next edition of Ibizacinefest. The selected artists will be invited to participate, if they wish, in a public talk at Galerie Art Nomade, moderated by Xavi Herrero, to discuss their creative process.

SPBC will pay these prizes in cash before the start of the Festival to facilitate the winners' attendance at the exhibition opening, their participation in the talk, and their participation in other events organized by SPBC.
