What Makes Us Human?
Saturday Review invites photographers from around the world to submit images exploring the richness, complexity, and shared experience of being human.
We are looking for photographs that reveal something meaningful about human life: connection, family, work, joy, struggle, ritual, solitude, community, aging, childhood, culture, identity, or the quiet moments of everyday existence.
The photographs may be intimate or expansive, documentary or artistic, local or universal. We are especially interested in images that make us stop, look again, and consider what connects us across geography, culture, and circumstance.
Selected photographs will become part of Saturday Review's international photographic project examining humanity through the eyes of people around the world.
Each entrant may submit up to three photographs.
Founded in 1924, Saturday Review is being reawakened for a new generation as a magazine devoted to Science, Arts, Letters, and Public Life.
For more than a century, the Saturday Review tradition has been grounded in curiosity, ideas, culture, and the human condition. Today, the publication is being rebuilt as an international forum for thoughtful writing, art, photography, and conversation about the forces shaping our lives.
At the center of this new chapter is a simple question: What makes us human?
This international photography initiative extends that inquiry beyond words, inviting people throughout the world to document humanity as they see and experience it.
Submissions will be considered on the following criteria:
Photographs do not need to be technically perfect or professionally produced. A powerful idea, authentic moment, or distinctive point of view may be as important as technical execution.
