We are pleased to announce the fourth Hamburg Portfolio Review. Photographers from all over the world are invited to submit their work.

Since its inception in 2021, we have established a new platform for the international photography scene. The success of the past three years motivates us to continue supporting emerging photographers and contemporary storytellers from around the world. We strive to bring together members of the global photographic community to meet, help each other, have fun, exchange ideas and create job opportunities.

The Hamburg Portfolio Review offers photographers the opportunity to present their work to an international panel of photography experts.

A top-class jury will review all applicants and select 100 photographers who will be invited to take part in the online reviews in October 2024. The Hamburg Portfolio Review will be largely virtual. During the one-on-one portfolio reviews, the selected photographers will each meet 4 of approximately 50 photo experts from a variety of fields and present their work in an exhibition and screening.

We give emerging photographers a voice and visibility by connecting them with publishers, media houses, museums, festivals, foundations, universities and institutions, and showcasing their work in exhibitions across Hamburg.

There are no genre requirements. However, the focus is on narrative photography, not advertising imagery.

The Hamburg Portfolio Review is aimed at people who are genuinely interested in photography. For whom photography is not just a hobby, but a professional visual medium to address contemporary issues. We are curious to discover new photographic work from around the world, image makers and visual storytellers who have developed their unique voice and have something to express through photography.

The Hamburg Portfolio Review is a cooperation between the publishing house Gruner + Jahr with the media brands STERN and GEO, the FREELENS Foundation and the University of Applied Sciences Hamburg. Kindly supported by Canon, the Hamburg Ministry of Culture and Media and Hahnemuehle.

What winners receive

• The possibility to present and discuss their work with 4 of approximately 50 internationally renowned experts from different photographic sectors
• The chance to showcase their projects in an exhibition.
• The opportunity to establish relationships with international media houses, festivals, publishers and foundations.

How to enter

All photographers over 18 years are invited to submit their work. Each participant may submit two projects with 5-10 images or one project with 20 images. If you choose to submit one project with 20 images, please note that due to technical reasons you must submit your project in two parts (a+b). Call for entries is between 01 May and 31 May 2024.
