prize dedicated to professional women photographers working in a documentary vein (for the
GERMAINE VAN PARYS Award) or at the start of their career (for the DECOUVERTES
[DISCOVERY] Award).
By entering the competition, candidates expressly agree to these rules. The organisers reserve the right to modify the terms and conditions of the competition without incurring any liability. The
amended version may be consulted at any time on the award website.
The award is open to women photographers in two categories:
A. The GERMAINE VAN PARYS Award: a production grant of EUR 8,000 for the creation of a
documentary work by a professional photographer in Brussels. At the end of the ten-month production period, an exhibition of the winner's work will be held in Brussels, alongside the exhibition of the work of the Découvertes (Discovery) Award winners.
The grant covers all the costs incurred by the winner in producing their photography work, with the exception of exhibition-related costs (exhibition prints, framing, etc.) as well as travel and
accommodation expenses for the award-giving ceremony/exhibition opening, up to a maximum of EUR 500 incl. VAT, if the winner's residence is not in Brussels.
B. The DECOUVERTES (DISCOVERY) Award: a mentoring grant for photographers at the start of their professional career. This award is open only to graduates of Photography/Journalism/Art colleges located in the City of Brussels (1000 BXL), who have been out of college for no more than three years. For this edition, graduates from 2024, 2023 and 2022 are therefore invited to compete.
Three candidates will be selected by the review panel at the beginning od 2025.
This grant is a personalized programme designed to support the three young photographers in
developing their professional practice and visibility. This 10-month mentoring scheme will involve Belgian and international professionals from the photography sector.
A grant of EUR 1,000 per candidate will be awarded to help them carry out their project.
At the end of the mentoring period, a joint exhibition showcasing the work of the Découvertes
(Discovery) Award winners will be held in conjunction with the exhibition of the work produced by the winner of the Germaine Van Parys Award.
Exhibition details and dates will be announced when the winners are announced.

Participants fill in the form on the Picter Contest website. The deadline for creating an
account on the Picter Contest participation platform, finalizing registration and submitting
entries for the 2024 award is midnight Central European Time on 15 December 2024.

A letter of recommendation, addressed to the Germaine Van Parys Award, from the
professional supporting the application.

Participants guarantee the validity of the information and declarations they provide when registering and that the photos are originals, that they are their own work and that they do not infringe the intellectual property rights of third parties. Participants confirm that they have received the necessary authorisations from the person(s) photographed with regard to their image rights. Otherwise, participants assume full responsibility and will no longer be authorized to take part in the competition.
Participants release the organizers from any liability in this respect.
The winners will be chosen by a review panel of professionals from the world of photography.
The review panel's deliberations are confidential. The review panel's final and binding decision is taken by mutual agreement. The review panel is not required to justify or give reasons for its
decisions. The organizers reserve the right to postpone, extend, shorten, modify or cancel the
competition, or not to select photographers if circumstances so require, without being obliged to
compensate participants. The organizers also reserve the right to cancel the competition if an
insufficient number of entries are received and/or if, in the opinion of the review panel, none of the entries received meet the required quality standards. The composition of the review panel will be announced on the award website.
Each winner accepts that his/her name and image may be used for the purposes of promotion
of this photo competition and that they are mentioned in a general way in all the communications on this subject. The winners also authorize the organizers to reproduce and
disseminate their image, name and any information concerning their professional career in any
internal and/or external communication medium, as well as via the media, without any claim to
compensation, for non-commercial purposes.
The organizers will process the personal data it receives from participants in this competition. The members of the review panel and the staff who have seen the participant's files process this information in a strictly confidential manner. Each participant may exercise their right of access or rectification at any time, and, if necessary, the deletion of all personal data concerning them. They may also object to the processing or request a restriction of the processing and benefit from data portability (where applicable), in accordance with the applicable data protection law by sending a signed request form together with a copy of their identity card, passport or other proof of identity to info@germainevanparysaward.be
