Complete rules available in English, French and Dutch on our Website : www.germainevanparysaward.be

1. On the initiative of Brussels City Council, the Germaine Van Parys Award is a photography

prize dedicated to professional women photographers working in a documentary vein (for the

GERMAINE VAN PARYS Award) or at the start of their career (for the DECOUVERTES

[DISCOVERY] Award).

By entering the competition, candidates expressly agree to these rules. The organisers reserve the right to modify the terms and conditions of the competition without incurring any liability. The

amended version may be consulted at any time on the award website.

2. Organizers: Brussels City Council and the non-profit organization Out of Focus, in association with the Géopolis Centre.

3. Award

The award is open to women photographers in two categories:

A. The GERMAINE VAN PARYS Award: a production grant of EUR 8,000 for the creation of a

documentary work by a professional photographer in Brussels. At the end of the ten-month production period, an exhibition of the winner's work will be held in Brussels, alongside the exhibition of the work of the Découvertes (Discovery) Award winners.

The grant covers all the costs incurred by the winner in producing their photography work, with the exception of exhibition-related costs (exhibition prints, framing, etc.) as well as travel and

accommodation expenses for the award-giving ceremony/exhibition opening, up to a maximum of EUR 500 incl. VAT, if the winner's residence is not in Brussels.

B. The DECOUVERTES (DISCOVERY) Award: a mentoring grant for photographers at the start of their professional career. This award is open only to graduates of Photography/Journalism/Art colleges located in the City of Brussels (1000 BXL), who have been out of college for no more than three years. For this edition, graduates from 2024, 2023 and 2022 are therefore invited to compete.

Three candidates will be selected by the review panel at the beginning od 2025.

This grant is a personalized programme designed to support the three young photographers in

developing their professional practice and visibility. This 10-month mentoring scheme will involve Belgian and international professionals from the photography sector.

A grant of EUR 1,000 per candidate will be awarded to help them carry out their project.

At the end of the mentoring period, a joint exhibition showcasing the work of the Découvertes

(Discovery) Award winners will be held in conjunction with the exhibition of the work produced by the winner of the Germaine Van Parys Award.

Exhibition details and dates will be announced when the winners are announced.
