The Open Call for the Discovery Awards 2023, is open to all artists, professional or amateur, national or international over 18 years old. Artists may participate on an individual basis or as a collective;
The jury will select twelve to fourteen finalists that will be invited to exhibit their work in the 33rd edition of the festival from the 15th of September to the 28th of October 2023 in Braga, Portugal. From those finalists, there will be a selected winner that will be awarded a monetary prize.
Winner: 1000€ (one thousand euros)
In addition to the projects selected for exhibition, there will also be 15 to 20 projects selected to be part of a video projection that will be part of this edition of the festival.
All projects that are lens based are eligible (photography, vídeo, installation, mixed media).
The submitted projects should be related to this year's theme Essay for the Future.
Each project submitted will be considered a single application.
Each application has a registration fee of 35€.
Each artist can submit a maximum of 3 projects.
Artists take full responsibility for the authorship of the images/work presented in the contest.
The production costs of the selected works for exhibition will be covered in total by the organization of the festival. All decisions concerning the production of the exhibition (prints, frames, layouts, assembly, and so on) will be made by the production team and the artist.
The artists will have images of their work reproduced in the catalog of the festival, and they will receive a copy of it.
Besides covering the total costs of the production of the exhibition, the organization
covers 2 nights of accommodation in Braga on the opening weekend of the festival from the 15th to the 17th of September, 2023.
The images that are part of the selected work, can be used by the festival in order to promote exhibitions and activities in it.
The works selected and produced for the 2023 edition of the festival will become part of the festival's archive at the end of this edition;
In future, the festival may use the produced images for exhibitions (individual or collective), within the festival or in partnership with similar institutions. This will always be communicated to the authors beforehand. Whenever possible, and on a case-by-case basis, the festival will try to ensure that the artist receives a fee for their participation in these exhibitions.
All the selected finalists will need to sign a Declaration of Agreement and Consent for the use of the images of their project, explained above.
NOTE: Any omitted issues in this regulation, shall be addressed by the festivals Board of Directors.
