Terms and conditions in Swedish

General

The image material must be created by the competitor and be made in a journalistic spirit. Advertising or government assignments are not accepted. Entries must maintain the highest journalistic quality where visual storytelling is rewarded.

AI-generated images are not permitted. If such entries are discovered, the photographer will be disqualified from all competition classes.

Material that has previously been awarded in Årets Bild Sverige cannot participate.

TV Submissions

TV submissions must have the necessary permissions and rights for all material included. Submissions do not need to have been broadcast before. The names of the photographer, editor and reporter must be provided upon submission. In the event of a win, the photographer will be awarded the prize, but the collaborators will be mentioned.

Time frame

All entries, except for the Story of the Year, must have been taken between January 1, 2025 and December 31, 2025.

Older material can be submitted for the Story of the Year, but at least one image or sequence must have been taken or filmed during the competition year. Previously submitted material must not have won an award.

Anonymity and Publication

All entries are judged anonymously. The photographer's name, newspaper or channel symbol may not appear in entries or captions. Entries do not need to have been previously published.

Combining entries

A single image can also be included in a story, but the same single image may not compete in multiple single classes. A story cannot compete in multiple classes. This also applies to the Story of the Year, which cannot be combined with other classes.

Image processing

Images may be processed, but changes may not deviate significantly from the original. It is not permitted to clone, darken or brighten parts of the image so that they disappear completely. AI may not be used to create, remove or add content.

In doubtful cases, the competition management may request original files for review. The competition management reserves the right to disqualify entries that have been manipulated in the image processing. No money will be refunded if this happens.

The jury will have a high tolerance for the photographer's personal, visual expression as well as the photographer's ability to tell a story. However, Årets Bild Sverige, the Picture of the Year Sweden, is a journalistic competition in accordance with journalistic ethical and moral values.

Resolution and format

Images should have sufficient resolution to be reproduced in a book and possible exhibition. Interpolation or enlargement beyond the original size should be avoided.

Still images should be in JPG format with a maximum of 30 MB per file and 300 ppi.

TV contributions should be in MP4 format with a maximum resolution of 1920×1080 px and a maximum size of 3 GB.

Captions

All entries, including moving images, must have captions. Try to answer the questions: What is happening? Who or what is involved? Where is it happening? When did it happen? How did it happen? Why did it happen?

The maximum length for a caption is 500 characters. Reports must also have an overall description in the first image of the series, no more than 1000 characters.

Remember not to include the photographer's name in the caption or overall description.

Ethical rules

The material must be of the highest journalistic quality. We follow the SJF's rules on journalistic, ethical and moral standards.

According to good photojournalistic practice, no images may be arranged or directed at the moment of the photo. For still images, this applies in all classes except for portraits.

TV contributions follow largely the same guidelines as the still image, but with greater scope for arranging to illustrate an event when this is necessary for the clarity of the story. However, such arrangements may not mislead the viewer or change the actual event.
