The competition is open to all professional photojournalists and documentary photographers in Sweden. This may need to be proven in the form of membership in PFK, SJF, SFF or another similar organization. Membership is not compulsory, however, it is the responsibility of the competitor to prove that he is professionally active if the competition management requests it. If the contestant fails to prove professional activity, his/her entry may be disqualified and no fees will be refunded. All images must be created in a journalistic spirit, no PR or official assignments are accepted within the competition.
All nominees will be invited to the gala dinner in Stockholm at the München brewery on March 13, where the winners will be announced. The winners in all categories receive a statuette during the award ceremony. All nominees and winners will each receive a book which will be picked up at the award ceremony. (The competition does not cover shipping if you cannot attend the gala.) The Rookie of the Year wins SEK 10,000 and a year's membership in SFF.
Årets Bild is Sweden's most prestigious prize for photo journalists. It was established and is owned by the Press Photographers' Club since 1942 to promote good professional performance and is awarded annually by an independent jury.
Årets Bild aims to promote good photo journalism and highlight the role of images for democracy and freedom of expression. We live in a world where both still images and moving images have a greater presence than ever. It is important to highlight the central role of images in journalistic storytelling and how photographers play a decisive role in journalistic work.

It costs 700 SEK to participate in “Picture of the Year-Sweden” . Then you can submit an unlimited amount of material in all classes. The contest closes on January 10, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. As long as the contest is open, you can come back and edit your entry.
All entries in all classes (with the exception of Story of the Year) must be taken during the period 2024-01-01 to 2025-01-10. No material may have previously won in Årets Bild Sverige. The contestant may only submit material that he/she has produced himself. Any form of Ai generation of images is not allowed, the contestant will be disqualified. Name, newspaper or channel symbol must not appear in contributions or captions. All entries compete anonymously. TV contributions must have permission and rights for all media included in the contribution. No contributions need to have been sent before. On the contrary, we encourage you to re-edit the features so that the story really comes into its own. Maximum size allowed 3 GB, 1280x1920.
In all categories, the jury starts from the following. No images or features need to have previously been published/broadcast, the material must be of the highest journalistic quality where the storytelling is rewarded.
