By submitting work to Apparently in America for consideration in the 2026 Artist Award, you acknowledge and agree to the following terms. These conditions constitute an agreement between you and Francesca Hummler (hereinafter referred to as “the Organizer”). The submission process is facilitated by Picter (picter.com), and all works must be submitted through the platform. Picter’s Terms of Use and Privacy Policy also apply.

1. DEADLINE

The submission deadline is July 4, 2026, 11:59 PM (local time). The Organizer reserves the right to modify the deadline if necessary.

2. PARTICIPATION FEE

Submission fee is $10.

3. ELIGIBILITY AND SUBMISSIONS

3.1 PHOTOGRAPHIC WORKS

  • Applicants may submit one project consisting of 10–20 images.
  • Work previously featured in Apparently in America should not be resubmitted. The intention is to expand the project by introducing new voices and perspectives.

3.2 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

All submitted work must relate, directly or indirectly, to the theme of American identity, experience, or context.

4. SELECTION AND AWARD

A jury of invited artists and professionals will review a curated shortlist of submissions.

One selected artist will receive:

  • A $500 cash award
  • Feature within Apparently in America (online and/or editorial context)
  • Up to three honorable mentions may also be selected.

The Organizer does not guarantee selection, publication, or exhibition.

The $500 award will be paid in USD via PayPal, Wise, or bank transfer. Any transfer fees, currency conversion fees, or local taxes are the responsibility of the recipient.

5. USE OF SUBMITTED WORK

5.1 PUBLICATION AND PROMOTION

If selected, you grant the Organizer the non-exclusive right to display, publish, and reproduce your submitted work for purposes related to Apparently in America, including:

  • Online features
  • Social media
  • Press and promotional materials

All works will be properly credited with your name or chosen artist name and, where possible, your website or portfolio.

5.2 CONTEXT OF DISPLAY

The Organizer reserves the right to present submitted works in various formats and alongside other artists’ work.

6. ARCHIVING

  • Submitted works may be archived for internal and project-related purposes, regardless of selection.
  • You may request removal of your work by contacting the Organizer.

7. COPYRIGHT AND CONSENT

By submitting you confirm that:

  • You are the sole copyright holder of all submitted work
  • You have obtained consent from all individuals depicted (or their legal guardians where applicable)
  • Your work does not infringe upon any third-party rights or laws
  • You assume full responsibility for the content of your submission.

8. LIABILITY

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Organizer from any claims arising from submitted works that violate these terms.

9. DATA AND PRIVACY

Your personal data will be used solely for the administration of this open call and related communications. Only your name (or artist name) and optional website/social link will be made public if selected.

10. GENERAL CONDITIONS

The Organizer reserves the right to update or amend these terms at any time. If any provision of these terms is deemed invalid, the remaining provisions will remain in effect.
