The National Press Photographers Foundation Inc. (NPPF), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is charged with advancing photojournalism through education and awarding scholarships and fellowships to deserving individuals who have demonstrated ability or promise in the field of visual journalism. NPPF supports the work of photojournalists who play a critical role in the free flow of visual information in a healthy democracy.
The National Press Photographers Foundation (NPPF) is pleased to offer two different scholarships for individuals wishing assistance to attend the NPPA Advanced Storytelling Workshop. NPPA members will be eligible for either award, non-members are only eligible for the Hutchison/Wheeler Advanced Storytelling Award.
The $2,000 Hutchison/Wheeler Advanced Storytelling Award is offered to photojournalists who need financial assistance to attend the NPPA Advanced Storytelling Workshop. Photojournalists Sonny Hutchison and Chris Wheeler believe the workshop's mentoring and professional interactions can profoundly impact a photojournalist's life. The NPPA's Advanced Storytelling Workshop provides eye-opening experiences giving photojournalists fresh perspective and instilling confidence and skills in visualizing their stories. A great workshop can change you. And your vision can change the world. The award is for people who might not otherwise be able to attend the NPPA Advanced Storytelling Workshop.
The award is open to working professional video photojournalists with at least two years of full-time employment or an accomplished student with a professional portfolio that includes three stories they have shot and edited. Note this award is NOT intended for beginning video photojournalists, but rather for experienced video photojournalists who have mastered the basics of good video storytelling.
